The Pro-Hollywood Boot Camp (PHBC) is an intensive film education workshop programmed for professional athletes aspiring to post-sports careers in the motion picture industry. Through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, the PHBC gives athletes a crash course in the art of moviemaking and introduce them to the various careers in the film business.
The four-day program offers classes in a variety of disciplines intrinsic to the film industry, including screenwriting, directing, cinematography, and editing. Instructors are selected from among top industry executives, filmmakers and film school professors. In addition, students have the opportunity to shoot and edit a short film on a studio backlot under the supervision of acclaimed directors.
The PHBC culminates with a private dinner and screening of the students’ work before an audience of league executives, team owners, program mentors and a select group of industry influencers. The occasion will provide the students the opportunity to jump-start professional alliances with distinguished members of the Hollywood community.
In 2012, Film Life partnered with the National Football league (NFL) to introduce the PHBC to its players. Twenty athletes, from among the leagues most elite players, take part in the annual program held in Los Angeles. This year’s NFL Pro Hollywood Boot Camp will be held from March 11th -15th. Universal Studios, will again serve as the host production facility.
